Session 9 — content update
One entry of the build log, as committed in docs/build-log/s9-content-update.md. All entries
- Date: 2026-10-06 · Branch: s9-content-update · PR: #19
(redacted for publication, 2026-10-08)
Goal
A pre-launch content update: the Hammerspace pull-request count, a resume entry for this site, what the GMLE exam and SEC595 cover, Hammerspace, SHIELD and Stryker wording from the LinkedIn snapshot and Paige's dated entries in the inventory, credit for the thesis's evaluation design, a corrected incident passage on About, and a refreshed history snapshot, with the resume kept to two pages.
What shipped
- Two code steps (
lib/content/schema.ts,scripts/build-resume.tsx,tests/unit/content.test.ts): an optionalresumeDetailon certifications, which the resume prints in place ofdetail, with a claims-gate test that a resume line prints no number its site detail does not source; and three new source ids inSourceIdSchema(site-build-record,giac-gmle-objectives,sans-sec595-course). AGENTS.md names both. - Hammerspace pull requests, 220+ to 300+, and "internal" in place of "production"
(
content/profile.ts: the "Currently" line and the resume's opening paragraph;content/experience.ts). The three metrics cite "Facts confirmed by Paige", whose date range now runs to 2026-10-06, with a note that the figure was updated from the resume of 2026-09-11.tests/e2e/a11y.spec.tslooks for the 300+ source button. - Experience wording (
content/experience.ts,content/research.ts): four Hammerspace bullets, led by evaluation (the LLM judge, the ingestion sources, the interface and the demo, golden queries and SSE, the multi-agent platform's containers, routing and MCP integrations, concurrent LLM API workloads, and the LoRA fine-tune's libraries, instruction dataset and logging); SHIELD's second bullet gains incident triage; Stryker's first two bullets are softened ("toward", "in PyTorch", "Applied and evaluated"), and the Stryker XAI research summary follows. No skill tag changed in this step; the code review follow-up below adds Hammerspace'spytorchtag. - Thesis (
content/projects/interpretable-medical-imaging-thesis.mdx,content/research.ts): the "Inducing ground truth" section credits the design to Yilun Zhou, Serena Booth, Marco Tulio Ribeiro and Julie Shah's paper (AAAI 2022) and its repository; the second bullet (on the resume) and the/researchsummary open with "Applied Zhou et al.'s induced-ground-truth design (AAAI 2022) to chest X-rays" (reworded in the pre-merge read, below). The failed ResNet-34 run is stated exactly, with a new metric, "four of the five", sourced to the thesis (§4.2, Fig. 4.4 and Table 4.3, pp. 25–27). - About (
content/about.ts): the fourth paragraph's middle sentences corrected against the lab's technical report and the affected company's technical timeline; the second paragraph names the LLM judge and the human review of what it passes. Paige's opening and closing sentences of the fourth paragraph are unchanged; it still names no organisation and holds no digits. - GMLE and SEC595 (
content/certifications.ts,content/sources.ts):/experienceshows the exam's ten objectives, the domain ratings (13 of 14 at the top rating) and the course's six sections; the resume prints shorter lines throughresumeDetail. Three new metrics, sourced to the grade report, GIAC's objectives page and SANS's course page (both read 2026-10-05). - This site as a card-only project (
content/projects/paige-rattenberry-site.mdx): a/projectsgrid card, not featured, no deep page, no link, on the resume, sourced to "This site's planning documents and build logs". The explorer layout was regenerated (44 nodes and 184 edges, from 42 and 173; 199 edges after the follow-up'spytorchtag). DESIGN §3.2 lists it. - The resume at two pages: MentalWell is off the resume (its card stays) and CMPT 412 prints its first bullet only.
- Home and Research (
content/profile.ts,app/research/page.tsx): Home's build-story pointer reads "Built with AI tools; what they got wrong, and which check caught it, is published."; the/researchheading is "Research" (DESIGN §0 and §2 amended). - Specs: IMPLEMENTATION_PLAN gains the run order with S9, a Session 9 section, launch steps that follow Session 9's merge and an acceptance row; SESSION_PROMPTS gains the run order and an S9 entry, and the stretch sessions are renumbered from 10; AGENTS.md and the README name Session 9.
- Tests: the projects filter spec counts the grid's cards from content; the explorer component test picks a skill in the vocabulary that no entry uses from content.
- Code review follow-up (after the PR's code review, 2026-10-06; Paige chose the fixes for the
tooltip notes and the PyTorch tag):
- the three 300+ notes no longer print the old figure;
- the resume's projects heading reads "Computer vision, AI research & engineering projects",
and the site entry prints "Personal project" under its title (
resume.org) in place of the tagline; - the site card and its resume bullet credit Codex (GPT-6) for one review and its follow-up,
as
/how-this-was-builtdoes, and the card's period is open ("Sep 2026 – Present"); - CMPT 412's resume bullet is selected with
resume.firstBullets: 1instead of being typed twice; - Hammerspace, SHIELD and Stryker name the sources of their rewritten bullets in a new
bulletSourcesfield; - Hammerspace carries the
pytorchtag its fourth bullet names. The Home teaser now draws its edges as one<path>per stroke width instead of one<line>per edge, and the explorer layout's base charge is -140 (from -120) so every always-shown label still finds a clear spot; - tests: the certification resume-line check now catches spelled-out counts and accepts any course code; a resume bullet may not repeat a card bullet; every clause of a certification's resume line must still read the same in its site detail.
- Second code review follow-up (after a second code review of the PR, 2026-10-06; Paige asked
for all eight findings to be fixed):
- constellation edges draw at their weight's width: the stylesheet no longer sets a
stroke-widthon edges, which outranked every edge's own attribute and drew all of them at 1.5, and the teaser's weight-1 path now carries its width too; a newtests/e2e/explorer.spec.tscheck compares each edge's drawn width with its attribute on/and/experience; - the teaser groups its edges by width without copying an array per edge;
- the loader refuses a
resume.firstBulletsthat keeps every bullet, and aresume.orgon a card whose paired research item supplies the line (pairedResearchinlib/content/projects.ts, which the resume script now reads throughresearchForProject); - the count check runs on every metric host's text, not only the certifications' resume lines, with years and identifiers (SEC595, BM25F, IEC 62304) exempt;
- the explorer component test checks an unknown-to-the-graph skill against a fixture set, so it cannot pass vacuously;
- AGENTS.md and the resume script's header record the widened projects heading; this log's "What shipped" no longer says no skill tag changed without pointing to the follow-up.
- constellation edges draw at their weight's width: the stylesheet no longer sets a
- Pre-merge read (2026-10-07; Paige asked for all five changes): the thesis bullet and its
/researchsummary open with a past-tense verb ("Applied … to chest X-rays: watermarked them, then used …") in place of "Applying …, watermarked chest X-rays"; the Hammerspace platform bullet says "front end included" in place of "interface included"; the site card's tool credit reads "Codex, GPT-6," without nested parentheses; the PR description now covers the second code review; and the history snapshot is refreshed again as the PR's last commit. - Screenshots of the changed pages and the two resume pages; the resume record pinned to the last commit that changes what it prints; the pre-launch history snapshot refreshed as the last commit.
Decisions and why
The decisions are Paige's, confirmed 2026-10-06 in the session plan, kept with Paige's private notes.
- D1, the session (Paige, 2026-10-06): a numbered session before launch step L1, one PR, with the plan, prompts and AGENTS amended in the same PR.
- D2, the count (Paige, 2026-10-06): 300+, recorded by Paige in the inventory; the site cites "Facts confirmed by Paige".
- D3, the thesis credit (Paige, 2026-10-06): a full sentence in the page body, and the credit
at the start of the second resume bullet and of the
/researchsummary. - D4, the longer resume drafts' facts (Paige, 2026-10-06): the LinkedIn-backed detail; Paige's 2026-10-04 confirmations (the LLM judge, containerized agents, concurrent LLM API workloads); the corrections ("internal", Stryker's "toward" and "applied and evaluated", and the library credit in the LoRA bullet (Paige, 2026-10-06)); and the interface and the demo.
- D5, the site entry (Paige, 2026-10-06): a card-only project on the resume, with no link (the public repository is not cleared until launch).
- D6, the resume cuts (Paige, 2026-10-06), in order, stopping once both renders fit on two pages: MentalWell off; CMPT 412 to one bullet; a shorter literature-review bullet; certification resume lines; FAISAL Lab off. Samsung stays. Only the first two were needed (and the certification lines were in place from the start).
- D7, About (Paige, 2026-10-06): correct the facts, keep the closing sentences approved in PR #14.
- D8, the snapshot (Paige, 2026-10-06): refreshed as the PR's last commit.
- D9, further recommendations (Paige, 2026-10-06): six accepted (the failed-run sentence, the
LLM judge on About, Hammerspace led by evaluation, Home's pointer, the
/researchheading, SEC595 coverage); tagging the thesiseval-harnessdeclined. - D10, the library credit (Paige, 2026-10-06).
- D11, the plan review's fixes (applied at Paige's request, 2026-10-06), none of which changes a decision; they are listed under "What the AI got wrong".
- D13, the pre-merge read (Paige, 2026-10-07): the three wording changes, the PR description brought up to date, and the snapshot refreshed again as the last commit, so D8 still holds (over rewording the log to say the snapshot came before the second code review).
- Why the code steps.
resumeDetailkeeps the site's longer certification text off the PDF, so the coverage costs the resume nothing. The three source ids let the official GIAC and SANS pages and the site's own record be cited;SourceIdSchemaaccepts only listed ids and staged-file paths, so an unlisted id fails validation at import. - D12, the code review's follow-up (Paige, 2026-10-06): reword the three 300+ notes so the
old figure leaves the page (over keeping them and amending the acceptance row), and shrink the
Home teaser's markup and add the
pytorchtag (over raising the cap or leaving the tag off). - Why the teaser's edges are paths. The tag first stayed off because the teaser measured
16,600 bytes with it against its 16,384-byte cap. One
<line>per edge was most of that markup; a static figure never lights a single edge, so one<path>per stroke width draws the same picture in 9,933 bytes with the tag. Crossings inside one path are painted once, so they are no darker than a single edge. - Why one projects heading. A second "Engineering projects" heading for the site entry was tried first; it pushed the certifications onto a third page. Widening the existing heading costs no line.
- Why the card landed in two commits. With the card on the resume and no cuts, the PDF is three
pages, so
pretestwould have failed the commit that added it. It was added off the resume, then put on together with the cuts. - Why the web sources are tied to counts. A source label reaches a reader only through a metric's tooltip, so each official page backs one spelled-out count in the text ("ten" objectives, "six" sections), which the claims gate checks.
Tools and model
Planning: Claude Code, Opus 5.5 (2026-10-05/06, one read-only subagent). Plan review: Claude Code, Opus 5.5 (2026-10-06, read-only, two read-only subagents; it then amended the plan at Paige's request). Implementation: Claude Code, Opus 5.5 (2026-10-06). Code review of PR #19: Claude Code's code review, Opus 5.5 (2026-10-06); its follow-up: Claude Code, Opus 5.5 (2026-10-06). Pre-merge read and its follow-up: Claude Code, Opus 5.5 (2026-10-07).
Constraints, human decisions and implementation direction
- Facts only from
content/; the resume generator types no facts, so every printed change is a content change, apart from theresumeDetailfallback. - The claims gate: every new number (300+, 13 of 14, ten, six, four of the five) is a metric with
a source, present in its host text; the thesis page renders its new metric through a
MetricStatreference. - About carries no digits and names no organisation; the incident sources stay out of the tree (S0-G decision D2, 2026-09-30), so the log names them only as the lab's technical report and the affected company's technical timeline.
- One commit per step in the plan's order, each green on
npm test.
Generated work and rejected suggestions
The wording of every change was drafted by Claude Code in the session plan and cleared by Paige, 2026-10-06. Rejected from the longer resume drafts, as the plan recorded:
- five Hammerspace bullets (no room), a first-person interface clause and "agentic RAG prototyping";
- the drafts' reorder of the Azure bullets, the compressed capstone line, an "Earlier projects" merged line, and merged "Panels, conference reviewing & leadership" entries;
- the drafts' skill lines (labels the vocabulary does not have);
- tagging the thesis
eval-harness(inaccurate: the thesis is not an LLM evaluation harness).
Verification (command, result, PR/commit)
On the branch, after commit aaef621, Windows 11, Node 24:
npm testafter every commit, with Paige's private term list present: 20 files, 190 passed and 2 skipped (the commit-message and noreply checks, which run only in the public repository).npm run lint: clean.npm run typecheck: clean.npm run build: every route prerendered (41 pages); prebuild's layout (44 nodes, 184 edges), font and resume checks passed.npm run budget: 9.8 KB of the site's own client JS on/, unchanged.npm run e2e:a11y: 159 passed before this log existed. A first run had one failure, the 360 px overflow check on the S3a build-log page, which this session did not change; it passed alone and in a full rerun. With this log's page: 162 passed.npm run e2e:features: 93 passed, 1 skipped (the opt-in live embed), after the projects spec's card count was corrected (below). With this log's page, after the privacy fix (below): 95 passed, 1 skipped.- CI on PR #19, first run: job 1 and Lighthouse passed; job 2 failed the per-route privacy check on this log's page (below).
- Local Lighthouse (
node scripts/lighthouse-local.mjs, three mobile runs each):/performance 95, 95, 90;/experience95, 94, 94; the thesis page 95, 94, 94; accessibility, best practices and SEO 100 on every run. - Resume: two pages with
NEXT_PUBLIC_SITE_URLunset and set to the production origin, before and after. Read in both renders: 300+ and "internal knowledge platform" present, "production knowledge platform" absent; the site entry present at the top of page 2 after the capstone; MentalWell absent; CMPT 412 with one bullet; the thesis bullet credits Zhou et al.; the GMLE line reads "with the top rating in 13 of 14 domains"; the StimMap3D disclaimer present; no phone-shaped string in the text. - The Home teaser's markup: 15,814 bytes of its 16,384-byte cap.
/projectsshows the Claude Code chip, which filters to the new card.- Greps: no "known vulnerabilities", "passed exploits", "split up the work", "without anyone
noticing" or "production knowledge platform" in
content/orapp/; "220+" only in the three planned metric notes; "Zhou" in the page body, the bullet and the research summary; the library credit only in the Hammerspace bullet; noskillsarray changed incontent/experience.ts.
After the code review's follow-up, same machine:
npm test: 20 files, 192 passed and 2 skipped.npm run lintandnpm run typecheck: clean.npm run build: every route prerendered; prebuild's layout check passed (44 nodes, 199 edges).npm run budget: 9.8 KB of the site's own client JS on/, unchanged.npm run e2e:features: 95 passed, 1 skipped.npm run e2e:a11y: 162 passed. After the rebuild with this log's final text, the projects and a11y specs together: 199 passed.- The Home teaser's markup: 9,933 bytes of its 16,384-byte cap, with the PyTorch tag.
- Resume: two pages with
NEXT_PUBLIC_SITE_URLunset and set. Read in the render: the heading "Computer vision, AI research & engineering projects", the site entry with "Personal project", "Sep 2026 – Present" and the Codex (GPT-6) credit, CMPT 412 with its first bullet only. - No "220+" in the built HTML of any page but six build logs that record it, this one included.
- Screenshots retaken: Home (both themes), Experience and Projects at 1280 and 390 px, and the two resume pages; the constellation was looked at in both themes, with every label placed.
After the second code review's follow-up, same machine:
npm test: 20 files, 194 passed and 2 skipped.npm run lintandnpm run typecheck: clean.npm run build: every route prerendered.npm run budget: 9.8 KB, unchanged.npx playwright test tests/e2e/explorer.spec.ts: 18 passed, the two new edge-width checks among them.- In Chromium, a
stroke-width: 1.5rule inside@layer componentsgave an edge withstroke-width="3"a computed width of 1.5px, which confirms the review's finding. - The Home teaser's markup: 9,952 bytes of its 16,384-byte cap.
- The resume prints the same content; its record's revision is unchanged.
- Screenshots retaken: Home at 1280 px (both themes) and Experience at 1280 and 390 px.
After the pre-merge read's wording changes, same machine:
npm test: 20 files, 194 passed and 2 skipped.npm run lintandnpm run typecheck: clean.- Resume: two pages with
NEXT_PUBLIC_SITE_URLunset and set; the new thesis and Hammerspace wording read in both renders. Its record is pinned to the wording commit. - The history snapshot's counts were unchanged before the refresh (
mainhad not moved since 2026-10-03: 219 commits, 18 merged pull requests).
What the AI got wrong and how it was caught
From planning and the plan review:
- The thesis page applied a published evaluation design without crediting it; found by re-reading the thesis's §3.2 and its references.
- About's incident passage said "without anyone noticing", which the lab's report contradicts; found by checking each claim against the primary reports. The planning draft's replacement still said the agents passed exploits and split up the work, which the report does not support; the plan review caught it by re-reading the report.
- On 2026-10-05 the certification page listed the GMLE exam under CyberLive without saying the exam includes CyberLive tasks, so the site's CyberLive clause relies on the grade report, and its comment and metric note say so.
- The resume budget: planning estimated about five lines over after the first two cuts, and the plan review estimated two to four lines over after all five. Both were wrong: rendering the planned content showed it fits after the first two cuts, which this session confirmed. A line count estimated from a rendered PDF is not a substitute for rendering.
- The plan review caught these in the plan:
- three source ids the content schema rejects
- a skill tag that would have pushed the Home teaser over its size cap (16,600 of 16,384 bytes, measured)
- a commit that would have left the claims gate red, and one that would have made the resume three pages before the cuts that fit it
- "production" left in a tooltip label
- a card bullet claiming the synthesis covers every logged error
- a thesis sentence that inverted where the watermark sat relative to FullGrad's region
- a unit test that used
codexas its example of a skill used nowhere
In this session:
- The plan missed that
tests/e2e/projects.spec.tshard-codes the number of grid cards (seven). Caught bynpm run e2e:features, which failed three tests; the count was set to eight, still typed, until the code review (below). - The plan's stale-text check expects no "220+" in
content/, but the plan's own metric notes say "the resume of 2026-09-11 said 220+". Caught by running the check; the notes were kept as planned and the three hits explained away, although a metric's note renders in its tooltip, so "220+" stayed in the page text the acceptance row rules out. The code review caught it. - The first draft of this log wrote the staged-folder prefix in a code span, which the per-route
privacy check rejects on every served page. The session's own check missed it twice: the grep
for the prefix ran with
git grepwhile the log was still untracked, so it searched nothing, and the localnpm run e2e:featuresrun after the log was added did report the failure, but only the last two lines of its summary were read, which cut off the "1 failed" line. CI job 2 caught it on the PR; the sentence now says "staged-file paths". A summary is read whole, and a grep over a new file uses plaingrep. - A comment drafted from the plan named Hammerspace's "H4", a label that exists only in the plan; caught on re-reading the diff and changed to "fourth bullet".
- The regenerated constellation is tighter in its computer-vision cluster than before (the CNNs, Image classification and Computer vision labels sit close together, without overlapping); seen in the screenshots and left for Paige's review, since the layout is seeded and any change to it is a content or code decision. The follow-up's charge change re-laid the whole constellation.
Caught by the code review of PR #19 (Claude Code's code review, 2026-10-06), and fixed in the follow-up:
- the "220+" in the tooltip notes (above);
- the site entry printed under "Computer vision & AI research projects", with its long tagline as the line under its title;
- the card and its resume bullet credited Codex for the follow-up only, not for the review;
- the certification resume-line test caught digits only, and exempted SEC595 by name;
- the leftover PyTorch tag, the card count typed in the projects spec, the vocabulary skill typed in the explorer test, the closed period on the site card, CMPT 412's copied bullet and the role sources that no longer named where their bullets came from.
In the follow-up itself:
- The first fix for the misfiled entry added a second heading, which made the resume three pages;
pretestrefused it, and the existing heading was widened instead. - Adding the PyTorch tag left five always-shown labels without a clear spot; the layout test caught it. The seed changes only d3-force's jiggle, so six seeds all failed the same way; raising the base charge to -140 fixed all five.
Caught by the second code review of PR #19 (Claude Code's code review, 2026-10-06), and fixed in its follow-up:
- every constellation edge drew at 1.5, whatever its weight, since Session 5: the stylesheet's
edge rule set a
stroke-width, and an author rule outranks an SVG presentation attribute. The first follow-up kept the rule and grouped the teaser's paths by a width that never showed; - the resume's projects heading was widened without amending the AGENTS.md rule that headings are copied from the resume of record;
- a
resume.orgon a card paired with a research item, and afirstBulletsthat keeps every bullet, both changed nothing in print and failed nothing; - the unused-skill case in the explorer component test was skipped whenever no such skill existed;
- the count check covered the certifications' resume lines but not the site text;
- "What shipped" said no skill tag changed and gave 184 edges, which the first follow-up made untrue;
- the teaser copied its width bucket for every edge.
In this follow-up: a probe script for the count check, written through a shell heredoc, lost a backslash, so its pattern matched the letter "d" and every host appeared to fail; rewritten with the editor, it found only years, BM25F and IEC 62304, which the check now exempts.
From the pre-merge read (2026-10-07):
- The second code review's follow-up landed four commits after the snapshot refresh, so "refreshed as the last commit" (here and in the PR description) stopped being true, and the PR description still gave the first follow-up's test count and teaser size and did not mention the second review. Caught by reading the PR's commits against the description before merge.
